#10 Placement Spotify The Best Female Jazz and Blues Vocals List / Don's List

  • "Katie delivers a moving, exploratory jazz recording that blends improvisation, poetic lyricism and emotional depth...a project shaped by survival, reflection and profound artistic evolution in a post-pandemic world.…for fans of modern jazz, avant-garde vocalists, women in jazz, New York jazz musicians and anyone interested in music born from resilience and transformation.”

    Joe Dimino, Neon Jazz

  • "Katie's vocal language moves between swing and bebop, groove and R&B, and into experimental territories shaped by artists like Meredith Monk. It's a synthesis that resists easy placement - intentionally so. Katie's latest project, The Hope Etudes, is not simply an album, it is a process made audible...The project unfolds as a song cycle - a journey rather than a collection. It invites listeners not to escape but to stay present through discomfort, through loss and ultimately towards something like light.... the way the music moves (is) fluid, responsive, unforced."

    Chrys Roney, Hothouse Jazz Magazine

  • "...a set of six original and three familiar tunes that stretch the possibilities of vocal jazz. Vocalist Katie Bull keeps the legacy of her jazz mentors — the late Jay Clayton and Sheila Jordan — alive with a recording that is daring, delightful and dazzling. The Hope Etudes literally gives hope that in the right hands and with the right support, the art of jazz singing will continue to evolve."

    Abe Goldstein, Papatamus Redux

  • “(The opening song) “Home.Coming.” begins as an almost tactile experience, with Katie Bull‘s vocals becoming the heart of the peace, bringing clarity and emotion to the forefront with nuance. The melody moves with subtle deftness, creating a journey that balances surprise and familiarity; sounds complement each other without ever overwhelming. The rhythm, steady and deliberate, offers a constant push, keeping our attention on alert, while the overall feel is calm, and deeply immersive.“

    Nagamag International Music Magazine

“I worked closely with Katie Bull during the runs of RACE and AMERICAN SON [on Broadway]. Her consistent and unwavering support played a crucial role in my ability to sustain the intense physical presence, deep emotional commitment and enormous vocal power that the play required of me throughout the run.”

- Kerry Washington, Actress

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

“When I say you and your class changed my life I sincerely mean it. Not just because it got me a job, but because of what I discovered about myself...I feel stronger because of the voice work. I feel more open.”

— Julia Schlaepfer, Actress
